Sure, the tiger blood jokes are funny enough. But there's a growing backlash against the media frenzy that's been eager to document Sheen's every wild utterance and less eager to discuss his history of domestic violence charges.
As Jezebel.com founding editor Anna Holmes wrote in a New York Times op-ed this weekend, "While his self-abuses are endlessly discussed, his abuse of women is barely broached."
But on the very microblogging platform that gave Sheen a Guinness record, that started to change today.
The best International Women's Day idea I've seen; Unfollow Charlie Sheen Tuesday 3/8. If you don't follow him, persuade someone who does.
The message has caught on.
International Womens Day? Someone should call it international women unfollow Charlie Sheen day. I like that one better. #teamgoddess
To celebrate International Women's Day, Vue Weekly has un-followed Charlie Sheen. Happy #IWD!
If I followed Charlie Sheen, I'd unfollow him for International Women's Day. By now I'd really be looking for an excuse. Any excuse.
Some are noticing an inconsistency in their own Twitter feeds. (Also, this is a good time to point out that Sheen's record includes multiple restraining orders and accusations, but he has only pleaded guilty to the charges stemming from a December 2009 assault on Brooke Mueller.)
I'm so contradicting I tweet in support of women day and then follow Charlie Sheen a woman beater!
We don't know how Sheen is celebrating IWD, or if he is, but we're willing to bet he won't stop talking any time soon.
In honor of International Women's Day, can Charlie Sheen please shut up?
Some say it's time for a new conversation.
#internationalwomensday Let's tweet about our fave women instead of Charlie Sheen today. Fave lady athletes/musicians/authors/etc. Go!
One woman has a dream.
For Women's Day, I'd like Charlie Sheen to not be trending, no "chick flicks" and a day without Male Gaze in every movie, video, and image.
For those keeping score at home: As of this writing, Sheen's Twitter account still has 2,260,670 followers.
