Atlanta 6-Year-Old Sells Art for Japan

Like many a sentimental mom, Keely Muse kept all of her daughter's preschool artwork. She probably never dreamed she'd one day sell it to help struggling people across the globe.

Tuesday Muse, a 6-year-old kindergartner, may not understand the scope of devastation in Japan, but she knows enough to want to help.

"I saw people getting hurt and drowning," she told WXIA-TV.

Her mom asked her to think of something she was good at, and to use that talent to help.

"That's when she told me, 'I'm a really good artist,'" Keely told WXIA.

She enlisted friend and fellow 6-year-old artist Stella, and the two raised $264 at a sidewalk art sale in their Atlanta neighborhood. The girls will give all proceeds to the American Red Cross for their relief efforts in Japan.

Keely was so pleased with her daughter's success, she set up an eBay site. Pieces recently up for auction include "Marshmellow Masterpiece," which sold for $40; "Watercolor Kite," which went for $38.50; and "Roadrunner," which was up to $13.50 as of this writing. Bidders can also try for a commissioned piece, on a subject of their choosing.

All proceeds will go to the American Red Cross.

"I think she just learned in the face of something like this, so far away, we [feel we] can't really do anything, but we can," Keely told CNN.
