On Tuesday, the Hattiesburg, Miss., resident awoke to find in her living room an uninvited guest, who fell through the ceiling wearing nothing but a startled look on his face.
The bare-skinned intruder, identified by police as 33-year-old Patrick Williams, allegedly climbed into the shared apartment complex crawl space around 8:40 a.m. to avoid arrest. Williams crashed through the drywall beneath him, into Townsend's living room, the Hattiesburg American reports.
"I was yelling, 'Get out! Get out!' " recalled Townsend. "There was a hole in the ceiling, insulation everywhere and a naked man lying on the floor."
Despite the rude drop-in, Williams hoped that Townsend might be a gracious enough host to offer him a pair of shorts, a request that she refused.
Instead, Townsend says, she insisted that Williams leave and promptly dialed the police, who were still in her building's parking lot waiting to arrest Williams.
"And then he gets halfway out the door and runs back in screaming at me just to borrow a pair of shorts," Townsend said. "So finally I get him to leave, and he grabs my jacket and steals it, wraps it around him and runs out the door."
Mississippi Department of Corrections officers and Lamar County sheriff's deputies then arrested Williams, who after serving a two-year prison sentence for cocaine possession had a warrant issued for his arrest in 2010 for failing to report to his probation officer.
In addition to his previous offenses, Williams will be charged with felony malicious mischief because his failed naked escape act caused over $500 in damages to the apartment building.
Townsend says her landlord will probably pay to repair the ceiling, but the jacket is another story.
"They returned it and asked if I would like it back," she said. "I replied no."
