UPDATED, 12:21 P.M. EST -- A teenage boy was shot this morning at Martinsville West Middle School, in Martinsville, Ind., police confirmed to AOL News today.

Brad Wilson of the Martinsville Police Department said in a phone interview that the suspected shooter, a 15-year-old boy who is also a student at the middle school, is in custody. The suspect had reportedly been suspended from school two days earlier. Kara Brooks, a 13-year-old seventh-grader at Martinsville West, told The Indianapolis Star that he had been suspended for threatening to blow up the school.

The victim was shot twice in the stomach and was transported to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis by helicopter this morning. Local news outlet WRTV is reporting that he is in stable condition. His identity has not been confirmed.

Sgt. Curt Durnil of the Indiana State Police said officials weren't sure how the suspected shooter had been able to get into the school, The Associated Press reports.

"We have no motive at all at this point. We're talking to witnesses and schools officials to get to the bottom of it," Durnil said.

Durnil said the shooting occurred just before 7:30 a.m. Fox 59 reported that the incident took place near the school's cafeteria and may have stemmed from a fight between two eighth-grade boys at a school dance last weekend.

WRTV is reporting that the suspect, whose identity cannot be confirmed, posted a note on his Facebook wall this morning before the shooting. "Today is the day," he allegedly wrote.

In a news conference this morning, police said the suspect fled the scene on foot but was later apprehended. Police have reportedly found a handgun a hillside nearby, according to The Star.

Martinsville West Middle School is about 30 miles southwest of Indianapolis and has about 600 students, according to AP. All schools in the district are on lockdown as a precaution.
