A group of Southern athletes and businesspeople is banding together to provide a young hero with a new leg.

AOL News shared Anaiah Rucker's story in March. The courageous 9-year-old straight-A student from Georgia pushed her sister out of the way of an oncoming truck in February. Bearing the brunt of the truck's force, Anaiah saved 5-year-old Camry's life, but broke her neck and lost a kidney and her left leg.

Anaiah matter-of-factly spoke about her heroism to the "Today" show's Ann Curry. Her sister needed help, so Anaiah helped.

"She was too young to get hit like this. And if she got hit, she wouldn't hardly be alive. She would be probably gone forever," she said.

Megan Langdon is a high school track coach and president of Langdon Athletics, a sporting goods store in Greensboro, Ga., not far from Anaiah's Madison, Ga., home. When she heard Anaiah's story, Langdon contacted pro wrestler and Olympic shot-putter Steve "The Freak" Chamberland, who lives in Florida. Chamberland lost his leg in 1999 when someone crashed into his motorcycle.

"Ever since he lost his leg he's always worked to help find kids and adults prosthetics when they can't afford them themselves," Langdon told WXIA-TV.

Florida-based Clearwater Brace & Limb made Chamberland's prosthetic and agreed to create and donate one for Anaiah, worth $30,000.

Chamberland grew emotional talking to WAGA-TV about Anaiah's upcoming journey back to mobility.

"She's precious. I'm getting teary thinking about it. She has a long road ahead of her, but she's going to be fine," he said.
