Once a month, struggling families receive a box of groceries paid for by family with enough to share thanks to a national nonprofit called Family-to-Family. Founded in 2003 by Pam Koner, the organization is helping the poor in 17 communities currently.

Zach Bonner, a 12-year-old who created a foundation dedicated to helping homeless children, is named Beliefnet's Most Inspiring Person of 2009. Beliefnet selected the boy for being someone "who is so inspiring in his own life that just by being here on the planet with us, he inspires others."
