Little more than a week later, amid allegations of James' infidelity, Bullock canceled a planned appearance at the London premiere of the movie that won her the prize, citing "unforeseen personal reasons."
Polanski lawyers seek inquiry into misconduct
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Roman Polanski's attorneys filed an appeal Thursday asking that a special counsel be appointed to investigate alleged judicial and prosecutorial misconduct in the fugitive director's 32-year-old sex case. They cited new evidence provided by the original prosecutor in the case who testified in a recent series of secret sessions that he tried to disqualify the original judge in 1977 on grounds of misconduct but was ordered by his superiors not to do so.
Ex-porn star reveals purported Tiger Woods texts
LOS ANGELES (AP) — A former porn actress says she may reveal more potentially embarrassing information about Tiger Woods after releasing sexually graphic text messages that she claims prove her affair with the golfer. Joslyn James told The Associated Press on Thursday that she disclosed the messages because she wants people to realize that she was honest when she came forth earlier this year and said Woods had avidly pursued her.
Producer files $30M suit against Lady Gaga in NYC
NEW YORK (AP) — A songwriter and music producer who claims he helped launch pop star Lady Gaga says she squeezed him out of her lucrative career after he co-wrote some of her songs, came up with her stage name and helped get her record deal. Rob Fusari filed a $30.5 million lawsuit against the Grammy Award-winning performer, saying his protege and former girlfriend ditched him as her career soared.
ABC hires Amanpour for Sunday morning job
NEW YORK (AP) — ABC News has hired Christiane Amanpour, one of CNN's best-known personalities for her hard-nosed reporting from war zones over the past two decades, to host its Sunday morning political talk show starting this summer. She replaces George Stephanopoulos, who left the show in December to take over as co-host of ABC's "Good Morning America."
Fess Parker, TV's `Davy Crockett,' dies at 85
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Fess Parker, a televison icon to a generation of youngsters as Davy Crockett and later Daniel Boone, has died at the age of 85 of natural causes. Parker, who was also a major California winemaker and developer, died Thursday at his Santa Ynez Valley home, family spokeswoman Sao Anash said. His death came on the 84th birthday of his wife of 50 years, Marcella.

Toni Morrison among writers at NY literature event
NEW YORK (AP) — Toni Morrison, Salman Rushdie and Sherman Alexie will be among the writers featured at the sixth annual PEN World Voices Festival of International Literature in New York City. Readings and discussions will be held from April 26 to May 2. Others expected to attend include authors Richard Price, Jonathan Lethem and Richard Ford, poet-singer Patti Smith and singer Natalie Merchant.
Man accused of stalking Ivanka Trump arrested
RENO, Nev. (AP) — A 27-year-old man accused of stalking Ivanka Trump has been arrested in Reno. Police said Justin Massler of Reno was arrested Tuesday on a New York warrant alleging he used the Internet to stalk the daughter of Donald and Ivana Trump.
Exhibit looks at enigmatic phase in Matisse's art
CHICAGO (AP) — A new exhibition at the Art Institute of Chicago takes a close — sometimes even microscopic — look at one short and enigmatic phase in the 65-year-long artistic career of France's Henri Matisse. Matisse, who lived from 1869 to 1954, is often seen as the least controversial and the most serene of the great 20th century modernists. Though his occasional early sculptures are darker, Matisse's paintings and prints seem to live in a sunny place outside of time. Their tone of bright calm makes their reproductions favored decor for hospital corridors.
