VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — U.S. skiing star Lindsey Vonn revealed Wednesday she bruised her right shin while training last week and might skip some practice sessions at the Olympics but plans to race. "I'm coming into these Olympics a lot more unsure than I was, um, a few weeks ago," Vonn said in an interview with NBC's "Today" show that aired Wednesday.
James leads Cavaliers to 12th straight win
CLEVELAND (AP) — LeBron James scored 32 points to lead the Cleveland Cavaliers to their 12th straight win Tuesday night, a 104-97 victory over the New Jersey Nets. The win gives Cleveland the longest winning streak in the NBA this season. The Cavaliers (42-11) also have the best record in the league.
Race 1 of America's Cup postponed again
VALENCIA, Spain (AP) — Race 1 of the America's Cup was postponed again on Wednesday, this time because of big waves on the Mediterranean Sea. Racing was called off just before noon. The big multihulls, USA and Alinghi 5, didn't even leave the docks.
Rutgers suspends Stringer for a game
Rutgers suspended Hall of Fame women's basketball coach C. Vivian Stringer on Tuesday for one game for misusing practice players. Stringer will miss the Scarlet Knights' game against Seton Hall on Wednesday. She is third among women's coaches on the all-time victories list with 838 wins and was enshrined in the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame last September.
Ducks' Getzlaf optimistic for Olympic return
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Anaheim Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf says he is optimistic he'll return from his sprained left ankle in time to play for Canada in the Olympics. Getzlaf says an MRI exam Tuesday showed no significant damage to his ankle. He hopes to be back on the ice later this week.
Carmelo returns to help Nuggets beat Mavs, 127-91
DENVER (AP) — Carmelo Anthony scored 19 points in his return from an ankle injury and the Denver Nuggets had their biggest win of the season, routing the Dallas Mavericks 127-91 on Tuesday night. Anthony, the NBA's second-leading scorer, returned after missing eight consecutive games with a left ankle sprain. However, the Nuggets were without Kenyon Martin, who missed the game because of tendinitis in his left knee.
Helicopters and trucks bring snow to Cypress
WEST VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — A clattering helicopter and a rumbling truck dumped more snow on Cypress Mountain, the warm weather-plagued venue where the first Winter Olympic event is just four days away. Olympic organizers opened parts of the mountain to media for the first time Tuesday, showing off a snow-covered moguls course with big patches of dirt on either side. The snowboard halfpipe remained off limits.
Snow forces changes to Alpine training at Whistler
WHISTLER, British Columbia (AP) — With a series of storm fronts rolling in off the Pacific, Vancouver Games men's Alpine race officials pushed up the start of the first downhill training session on Wednesday in a bid to ensure this weekend's opening race starts on schedule. Team captains were formally informed of the decision by FIS race director Guenther Hujara on Tuesday after learning that as much eight inches of snow could fall at Whistler over the next three days. The training session will begin at 10:30 a.m. — up from 11:45 a.m. — because snow and fog are expected to limit visibility on the mountain early in the afternoon.
Parnevik fears back problems could end career
STOCKHOLM (AP) — Jesper Parnevik said Wednesday he will likely have to quit golf because of a broken vertebrae in his lower back. Parnevik, a five-time winner on the PGA Tour, told Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet that doctors said he needs to have joint fusion surgery, "which means I can't play anymore."
Portsmouth given 7 days to avoid administration
LONDON (AP) — Premier League club Portsmouth has been granted a seven-day reprieve over its unpaid taxes by London's High Court to avoid going out of business. Portsmouth persuaded the court on Wednesday to give it more time to reach a deal with the government's customs authority, but the club was ordered to produce a statement of its financial affairs by Feb. 17.
