A dead beluga whale was found on the mud flats near downtown Anchorage, Alaska, on Friday. The exact cause of the whale's death has not been determined, but animal experts said the endangered whale was pregnant.

"They're convinced they've seen its tail moving already and everything will be fine," said their teacher, Meg Eggleston. "They're in second grade."
Pathologists are still studying tissue samples they collected from the dead whale Friday. It beached along the Tony Knowles Coastal Trail.
They won't know how she died until they get back to the lab and run some tests. But they are sure she was pregnant.
The beluga population is declining and is estimated at about 321 in the region.
