Patterson rose $.59 or 1.8 percent, to $34.04.
PerkinElmer fell $.12 or .5 percent, to $26.40.
Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc. fell $.53 or 1.0 percent, to $51.68.
Varian Medical Systems Inc. rose $.21 or .3 percent, to $61.36.
Waters fell $.15 or .2 percent, to $82.10.
