Wildfire threat under control
Source: Star-Banner - Ocala FL
Small doses of rain the last two weeks have been just enough to hold down the threat of wildfire, according to local fire officials.
But with little to no rain in the forecast this week, fire officials said Monday they will keep their fingers crossed that Marion County makes it to the June rainy season before a large wildfire erupts.
"I'll hold my breath this coming week," said David Cooper, deputy fire chief for Marion County Fire Rescue.
The Marion County Multi-Agency Wildland Task Force, which is comprised many local, state and national wildfire fighting agencies, agreed Monday to keep the voluntary burn ban in effect.
The task will meet again on June 4 to determine if it is necessary to impose a mandatory burning ban, which would forbid all agencies, companies and the public from burning debris piles.
Cooper said Marion County received just enough rain last week, about an inch in three days, to soften drought conditions.
