Seminole Fundraiser Event Goes On Without Fisher
Source: The Ledger - Lakeland FL
LAKELAND | The Seminole Club of Polk County nearly had a perfect day for its annual booster club golf fundraiser on Friday.
The rain held off, and the temperature wasn't too hot for the golfers at the Lone Palm Golf Club.
The only thing that would have made the event better was Florida State football coach Jimbo Fisher.
Fisher was scheduled to Âattend but had to cancel Âbecause of the death of his grandmother.
The crowd, however, was given a good show by assistant head coach for defense and linebackers coach Greg Hudson and the "Voice of the Seminoles" Gene Deckerhoff.
Deckerhoff started with a couple of replays of his favorite calls in Seminoles' history â Rashad Greene's touchdown reception to give FSU the lead in a victory over Notre Dame in last year's Champs Sports Bowl, and the Charlie Ward-to-Warrick Dunn touchdown reception in 1993 that helped FSU defeat Florida.
"Touchdown Florida State" is how Deckerhoff is known by most people.
Afterward, Hudson grabbed the microphone and gave his thoughts on how the ÂSeminoles looked during spring training.
He also broke down the defensive side of the ball, where two Polk County athletes are playing â redshirt senior linebacker Vince Williams, who is recovering from a leg injury; and his brother, sophomore safety Karlos Williams, who was the team's top kickoff returner last year.
