LAKELAND | March brought another flurry of foreclosures in Polk County.
The county's total foreclosure filings â default notices, scheduled auctions and repossessions â were up 64 percent last month compared with March 2011 and fell 22 percent from February, according to RealtyTrac.
For the first quarter of 2012, local filings increased 56 percent from the year prior and were up 13 percent from the fourth quarter of 2011.
Nationwide, foreclosure filings posted an annual decrease of 16 percent in the first quarter, hitting their lowest level since the fourth quarter of 2007.
"The low foreclosure numbers in the first quarter are not an indication that the massive reservoir of distressed properties built up over the past few years has somehow miraculously evaporated," said ÂRealtyTrac CEO Brandon Moore.
