Monday must have been a mesmerizing afternoon of baseball in the Wilmington area.
It was the eve of the Wilmington Sharks season opener, and the team gathered to commemorate a new season with a meal.
Earlier in the day, UNCW learned its fate in the NCAA Field of 64.
And as the Seahawks discovered they were bound for the Raleigh Regional, Trot Nixon was about to throw out the ceremonial first pitch at Fenway Park in Boston.
The Red Sox invited him as part of their season-long celebration of 100 years of Fenway Park.
"I was feeling a lot of emotions and there were a lot of great things that I was able to be a part of here," Nixon said, in a story published in the Boston Herald.
"Each time that I come back up here it seems I get spoiled more by them," he continued.

On Sunday, Trot Nixon will be inducted into the Greater Wilmington Sports Hall of Fame.
Known as a blue-collar Major League Baseball player during his 12-year career, he transitioned into retirement with little fanfare in the Port City.
"I get treated perfectly fine, just like anybody else here," Nixon said.
In his hometown, Nixon is still revered, yet folks seldom make a big deal that he played right field for the Boston Red Sox. Or that he helped the franchise end an 86-year World Series drought.
"I probably get stopped in more places where I don't live than here in Wilmington," he said.
But last weekend, during his sons' baseball games in Brunswick County, Nixon signed autographs for youth who remember him.
"I try not to come across as someone who is not approachable," he said.
